Glyburide (also known as Glynase or Glibenclamide) is used to treat type 2 (noninsulin-dependent) diabetes (formerly 'adult-onset'), particularly in people whose diabetes cannot be controlled by diet alone. Glyburide is used to treat type II diabetes, either alone or in combination with other oral medications.


How to Use Glyburide
Glyburide is usually fairly easy on the stomach and is normally taken about 30 minutes before a meal, as a single dose or in divided doses.

Possible side effects with Glyburide include: anxiety, blurred vision, drowsiness, fluid retention, skin rash, eczema, itching, weight gain.


Glyburide Precautions
If the patient then skips the meal, the result can be dangerously low blood sugar, so it is important to maintain a regular eating schedule if taking Glyburide.


Glyburide Interactions
Beta blockers and calcium channel blockers (blood pressure drugs), and oral contraceptives may decrease the effects of glyburide, while ciprofloxacin (antibiotic) may increase the effects.
